Osunlade @ Deep Sugar – May 11th!
Ultra Nate and her Deep Sugar party has done it again, bringing another artist to Baltimore whose name immediately perks up the ears of all the city's house music aficionados. Osunlade, purveyor of soulful deep and afro inspired music with an occasional splash of leftfield, has been moving dance floors for well over a decade. He started out composing music for Sesame Street, moved on to work with such legendary artists as Pattie Labelle and Roy Ayers, and now heads the highly influential Yoruba label. Our own Tyler Schmith will be guesting in the courtyard with residents Katie and Danny Elder and Mookie Brock.
Thursday: Just for Heads at Red Maple
Our own Tyler Schmith joins The Elders at their new twice-monthly Just for Heads (J4H) party at Red Maple in Baltimore. It's Tyler's first appearance since returning from the BPM festival last month, so expect some fresh sounds heard down south. As always, the Elders can be expected to bring music as quality as themselves, and if January's J4H party was any indication it will be a stylish crowd with a taste for dancing.
BONUS: This show will be broadcast LIVE on Gourmetbeats Radio starting at 10PM EST!

TRACKLISTING:
Recommended: Andy Riley (Inland Knights, Toka Project) in Baltimore on Saturday – 11.17.12
We first added Inland Knights to our “listen to every new release by these guys” list back in 2002/2003. It was a time here in DC/Baltimore when their brand of house music was really experiencing a surge. We called it “Chunky House” then, some people might call it “Jacking” now, but whatever it's name it is fun, funky, full of energy and dance-floor-centric. Everyone seemed to be in love with this seemingly new sound, with artists like LawnChair Generals, The Littlemen, Toka Project (an Andy Riley side-project) and DC’s own East Coast Boogiemen all receiving heavy love in most DJ bags, and it made an indelible mark on house music as it spread across the country that is still extremely strong to this day.
Through all the releases coming out during that time, Inland Knights’ always stood out for us. We couldn't put our finger on it then, but for some reason they seemed more mysterious than the rest. Their tracks always seemed to push the envelope, and to be just a little “weird” … but the good side of weird where really cool stuff happens, and where everyone else seems to end up. Now understanding that Inland Knights had already been releasing tracks for over 5 years by 2002 (when most of these other artists were just getting started) it makes a little more sense. These guys were off in Nottingham, UK doing their own thing, founding Drop Music in 1998, releasing steadily through the 2000's, and still putting out new EPs as recently as September of this year. Somehow, they still manage to push the music in interesting directions while keeping that signature sound that makes you just want to tear up the dance floor, and they have never left our list of favorite artists.
This Saturday, Baltimore will have the chance to see for themselves why Inland Knights have become one of the most respected production outfits in house music. Andy Riley (½ of the duo) will be at Red Maple with opening support from Gourmetbeats’ own Tyler Schmith, Dimitri Max (Sampled, Guesthouse Music) and your hosts for the evening, ForQuarters Collective. It is recommended that you wear comfortable yet sexy shoes.
Recommended: El_Txef_A in Baltimore this Thursday
With support from our own Tyler Schmith! Visionnaire is quickly becoming Baltimore's best event for innovative and Avant-garde artists that push the envelop of dance music. We have been astounded at the lineups that they have chosen to bring to Baltimore since its launch just a few weeks ago: Droog, Tokyo Black Star, Morgan Geist and now El Txef A? We can't wait to see who else they have in store for us. Let's show them that Baltimore wants to see artists that are as unique as we are!
From Visionnaire:
Aitor Etxebarria aka El_Txef_A (pronounced 'Elchefa') is a native of Spain's northern Basque Country region. He has released on labels such as Suol, Hypercolour, and his own 'Fiakun' imprint at the young age of 25. Aitor's exquisite production style is as intriguing and unique as the culture in his home city of Bilbao, where the "Euskara" language is spoken. His track "Highway Love" reached the top of the charts on WhatPeoplePlay, a german dance music retailer known for innovation and techno leaning tendencies, landing him gigs across Europe in venues such as Berlin's Watergate, Moscow's Mia, and Valencia's Miniclub. Aitor's debut LP "Slow Dancing in a Burning Room" explores a blend of deep house, disco, and avant-pop, making him an ideal guest for our new underground series. Thursday, October 11th Visionnaire is pleased to present the US debut of one of Spain's finest.
Tyler Schmith – Baltimore Pride 2012 Mix
My set from Baltimore Pride 2012 - Weenies and Martinis party @ Red Maple.
Direct Download (MP3)
Pride in Baltimore is always something we look forward to at the start of summer. The streets are closed down, everyone's out and ready to party, and people are most definitely getting loose! Not surprisingly, Baltimore takes Pride to another level, and regardless of your orientation it’s one of the best parties of the year.
For this set I was digging for some 80s inspiration and ended up going in a slightly electro direction with a hint of nu-disco. The perfect mix for doing nothing serious. Shake it to the ground.
And no, that's not me in the shark mask...
