Gourmetbeats Tweets at WMC 2012

We've created a list on twitter featuring a few select people who will be tweeting live from the 2012 Winter Music Conference!  If you are going, think of it as your extra eyes on the street, telling you where the action is.  If you aren't going to be there, it will offer some live coverage of the trending sounds of the conference, typically a barometer for what's to come in 2012.  At the end of it all we'll be cataloging the tweets and giving a rundown of the whole event.  Follow the list HERE - and remember you can see our complete coverage of the 2012 WMC under the #WMC2012 tag.

Who we're following:

@TylerSchmith - Gourmetbeats Founder, DJ and WMC veteran, Tyler’s eclectic ear is always searching for the best that Miami has to offer.

@DJNutritious - DJ, Producer and Percussionist, New York's Nutritious is making waves in the house music scene as co-founder of SpinSpinNYC, Brooklyn Shakedown, and with his weekly Gratitude radio show.

@ZoeWilder - Dancer and self-described "Music Fiend", Zoe Wilder is Nutritious' partner in crime, helping to run SpinSpinNYC, hosting the Brooklyn Shakedown parties, and generally dancing wherever good music can be found.

@MzBehavinInBmor - Katie Elder misbehaves all over Baltimore, and she'll be doing the same in Miami.  Resident DJ at Ultra Nate's Deep Sugar party, blogger, photographer and one-half of "The Elders", we're excited to see what kind of trouble she gets into at the WMC!

@Megan_ATS - Megan Tipton knows what makes people dance.  She has an ear for music that any A/R rep would be jealous of, and she's not afraid to challenge the status-quo!

@Sizemo44 - Just Added!  Donny Sizemore (Sizemo) is a Deep House veteran, spreading the love from coast to coast for years now.  He's worked with some of the biggest names in the scene, and we're excited to have him tweeting for Gourmetbeats!

WMC 2012 Countdown – Featured Label: Large Music

In the world of independent House Music labels, staying power is rare, and few outfits have had the ability to consistently release standout tracks while staying true to their vision and sound.  Even fewer have had the sheer volume of hit records and breakout artists as Chicago's Large Music.  Operating now for over 15 years under the leadership of founder Jeff Craven, Large Music's roster has become a who's-who of House Music.  They have been behind an unbelievable number of songs that are now considered "classics", while at the same time releasing a constant flow of top-quality music, helping to break a new generation of artists.  It's this combination of veteran legends and fresh energy that makes the Get Large Miami party one that we look forward to every year.

Get Large first hit South Beach in 2002, and has been a major conference event ever since.  Gourmetbeats first attended in 2004, when those in the know could email to get on the guest list and receive a special "Large" pin in the mail.  It's this sense of sincere community, even with Large's success, that makes this event really special and has helped to build Large's devoted worldwide following.

The event itself will be held at SoBe Live, and includes an exciting lineup featuring Deron Delgado, Jonn Hawley, Sonny Fodera, Nathan G, Jask, and a special appearance by Doc Martin.  With Large's tremendous influence, we wouldn't be surprised if you saw some surprise guests behind the decks as well.  For us, the Get Large event has been a gauge of what the new sounds and influences in house music are going to be for the coming year, and we're excited to see what they bring to 2012!

Winter Music Conference 2011 Rundown

This year’s Winter Music Conference was announced amid a flurry of controversy over its split with the Ultra Music Festival.  In years passed, the conference had benefited (or suffered depending on who you talk to) from the huge draw of Ultra Fest, which as of this year claims to be the largest music festival in the world.  Gourmetbeats took the trip down to South Beach to see how the WMC stood on its own.

Interview: Jonn Hawley

Jonn Hawley lives and breathes house music.  He's been rocking the turntables since 1991, the production studio since 2000, and his own record label since 2003.  Now, with releases coming out on legendary Large Music as well as his own Soul Fuel imprint, and appearances playing around the country, it seems 2011 may be the year that Hawley crushed.  We sat down with the man from Milwaukee during his recent east-coast tour to talk music, food, and the green and gold:

WMC Drama – One Opinion

The owner of Miami's "SPACE" talks frankly about the controversy surrounding the 2011 dates of the Winter Music Conference vs. Ultra Fest: http://bit.ly/9FSm8M

"You can either come to Miami on the last week of March, support the greedy monopoly, keep taking it up the ass and lose your right to seeing your favorite DJ at your favorite club or you can come the second week of March, claim back your wallet and your nightlife."

Gourmetbeats will be in Miami on March 8th-12th.
